How I rank animes

I believe that i have a weird taste when it comes to anime ... and everything really .... so in this post I wanted to tell you guys how i rank animes.

Basically i rank animes on 5 aspects :-

  1. The story and how it's told
  2. Characters and their development throughout the anime
  3. Drawing and animation
  4. Soundtracks
  5. My personal feeling and attachment

First ill address the story, an anime without a good story is not a good anime no matter how high the other aspects are to me, and i can't give an anime more than 6 out of 10 if the story is not good. Seiken Tsukai no World Break is a good example of that, and don't get me wrong i enjoy watching the anime but can't help but think about how the hell did a normal guy became one of the strongest characters in the anime just by remembering some stuff, i mean seriously just in every episode he remembers some old spell or tactic from his past life making him dominate his enemies, i mean you really don't feel like he deserves his powers. On the other hand some animes have the story as their strong point like Code Geass, which to me doesnt have animations that are excellent and not all or even most of its soundtracks are great, but the anime breaks the rating charts and i would say mainly because of the epic story and the way its tolled.

Characters and character development is as important as the story to me. I prefer having an anime with few characters all of which have their unique personality than to have an anime where there are just too many characters with similar personalities or the generic anime personalities. I have two good examples of this, first is Toradora, there are only four main characters but all have a well written and unique personality. Love hina does have i think seven main characters and much more minor ones and it had lots of fan service which kept otakus watching more and more .. which i happen to be one of .. however this recipe back then was unique and entertaining and so love hina was a great anime, but sadly this recipe is just over used now, just with better drawing/animation and worse story, and its really getting boring.

Animations play a big role in action animes, and good animations improve any other anime in general. Some of the animes that came out recently have like those great animations and art but unfortunately are lacking in other aspects, however for those animes that strike a good balance between nice animations and a great story, make the anime just that much better like Kyoukai no Kanata. Drawing style to me is an important aspect to me, because it is what i look at when i watch an anime, and something like Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko gets a perfect 10 in its style because there is just so much details and its apparent that the artist took their time to perfect their style, again unlike something generic like most ongoing animes or something like Akikan.

Soundtracks are what you listen to all the time in the anime, and they just linger around even after you finish the anime, that is if they are good. A good anime will have great OST but more importantly play them in the right time at the right volume, and some of the animes that stand out in terms of OST are things like Rozen maiden, Arakawa Under the Bridge and Toaru Majutsu no Index.

Finally my personal feeling towards an anime. Hey this is my blog and my reviews, i mean i might give an awesome anime an average rating not because its an average anime or its bad, its just because its not my type of anime. To get the general rating of an anime you should go to myanimelist or animenewsnetwork, however i can't neglect my own feelings towards an anime, how i got connected or didnt, in my review. The main reason why xxxHOLiC is my all time top anime is because im so attached to it personally and i admit that to the rest of people it is not a 10/10 anime.

So now you know how i rate animes .. yah .. bye :p

So i finally completed Tsubasa Chronicles

Well, not really. I have watched the first season of the series a long time ago and when i watched it again i had almost forgotten everything in it.

Compared to recent action type animes this one is really old school in terms of its animation, but non the less its one of the best action animes of the mid 2000s.

The story revolves around a girl named Sakura who had lost all of her memories, and a boy named Syaoran who is determined to collect all of Sakura's memories for her, and basically thats it.

Original Sound Tracks, or OST, are one of the most important things i look for in an anime, maybe because I'm an audiophile and enjoy sounds a lot. Yuki Kajiura is one of the best composers that contribute to the anime world and i believe that her best work was in Tsubasa Chronicles. There isn't any track in the OST list that i didnt enjoy, Specially the characters themes, like Fai's theme just struck me on the second or third episode, like its soo epic and you know by the theme just how amazing the anime is.

If it was for the first two seasons i would've given the anime about 7/10, because of its kinda repetitive nature and kind of long 52 episodes (for both seasons).

When i saw the first OVA it instantly pulled the anime from a 7/10 to 8.5/10 which is very very good in my opinion, and what kept it form getting a nine or a ten was the fact that only 3 episodes of the epic epic Tokyo Revelations is simply not enough to compensate for 52 repetitive episodes, but still it was worth the wait. The other thing is that you cant understand the full story through the just the anime, you have to read the manga too which is why i didn't continue the second ova until now, moreover if you want to understand the full picture and get all the references you'll need to watch/read its cousin xxxHOLiC and Cardcaptor Sakura, and if you really really want to understand all the referenced characters you should also watch/read Chobits, Tokyo babylon and X, (ugh clamp why so many crossovers >_<)

So, would i recommend this anime, honestly im not sure.
If you are the type of person who can wait to and watch through the the first two seasons then go ahead once you reach tokyo revelations you will not regret the time spent watching the two seasons, however if you are the type who will get board and stop watching the anime then don't because it will only make tsubasa disappointing to you.

In this review i am a bit harsh, but thats just me. After reading what i wrote again it seems as though im saying that the first 52 episodes are bad but honestly no, even without the OVA this is a very high rated anime because even when i compare it to today's action animes it just gives me something more, i can't really describe it, and maybe its because it came out in the mid 2000s, when to me the best animes came out at that time.

What i would recommend is to read the manga first and then rewatch any chapter you like in the anime.
